Amherst Republican Town Committee Votes to Continue to Support Sen. Tim McGough
Our state senator, Tim McGough, attended our monthly meeting on Saturday, April 4, as he usually does. Tim represents Amherst, Merrimack, Milford, and Wilton. Tim has proven to be one of the hardest working elected officials in Concord. He is a strong supporter of law and order, parent’s rights, and maintaining the New Hampshire advantage of low spending and no sales or income taxes. Although only a first term senator, he has become a strong supporter of the traditional role of the state Senate as the deliberative side of the legislature.
Those of you who follow local news and social media may be aware that Tim has had a few challenges in the last few days. He addressed these issues head-on speaking to us. We will not get into a belabored blow-by-blow of the story, suffice it to say we feel the situation is a contest of wills between well-meaning people who have differing opinions on the best way to do things.
Based on a member motion, the Amherst Republicans voted that Sen. Tim McGough has our continued support and we have full confidence in his ability to continue to represent us.
As a final comment, we are dismayed that personnel issues in our State House are playing out in the newspapers and online forums rather than in the appropriate venues. We should all remember Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.”
